NHK WORLD-JAPAN Privacy Notice (for users in the EEA and UK)
This notice describes how NHK as the data controller processes personal data (meaning "personal data" as set forth in Article 4 (1) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (hereinafter referred to as "GDPR"); hereinafter the same) of individuals using NHK WORLD-JAPAN (hereinafter referred to as "the Service") to whom GDPR applies (hereinafter referred to as "User" or "Users"). NHK acquires Users' personal data directly from Users and uses it in unaltered form or in statistical form. NHK does not make any decision based solely on automated data processing which produces legal effects or similarly significant effects on Users.
Of Users' personal data, NHK will store viewer non-specific viewing history, information about browsed pages and content, and information about use for 25 months after acquisition. As for name, age, gender, address, and email address, if a request is received from a User, NHK will delete such data concerning the User without delay; otherwise, NHK will store such data for 25 months after acquisition. NHK will retain other personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes of processing described in Section 1. The specific retention period will be determined in consideration of the purpose of acquisition and processing of the personal data, the nature of the personal data, and the legal or operational need to retain the personal data.
NHK will not share Users' personal data with any third party or disclose it to any third party. Although NHK uses information collection and analysis systems, etc. provided by external companies, etc., the acquired personal data is managed by NHK and will not be used by external companies, etc. for their own purposes.
Users have the following rights regarding personal data acquired and processed by NHK:
Users have the right to acquire from NHK all necessary information regarding NHK's data processing activities concerning them (Article 13 of GDPR).
Users have the right to obtain from NHK confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning them is being processed, and, where that is the case, access the personal data and certain related information (Article 15 of GDPR).

Users have the right to object to the processing of personal data concerning them if certain requirements are met (Article 21 of GDPR).
Users have the right to receive personal data concerning them in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and transmit the data to another controller without hindrance from NHK, if certain requirements are met (Article 20 of GDPR).
Users have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated data processing (including profiling) which produces legal effects or similarly significant effects on them, if certain requirements are met (Article 22 of GDPR).

2. NHK will use personal data in an unaltered form or after statistical processing.
3. NHK will retain viewer non-specific viewing history for 25 months after acquisition and will delete it without delay upon the expiration of the retention period or when the use of the data is no longer required. For other types of personal data, NHK will delete it without delay when the use of the data is no longer required.
4. NHK will not provide personal data to any third party. Although NHK uses information collection and analysis systems, etc. provided by external companies, etc. acquired personal data will be managed by NHK and will not be used by external companies, etc. for their own purposes.
