00:20

Good morning.

00:24

I make mulberry tea in Yamaho,
Ichikawamisato Town, Yamanashi Prefecture.

00:29

My name is Han Seong Min.
Nice to meet you all.

00:35

A big voice from a big body.

00:37

Han Seong Min is from South Korea.

00:40

He is cheerfully promoting his product.

00:43

Mulberry is a plant of exceptional vitality.

00:52

At this point, Seong Min has been in Japan for 8 years.

00:56

He speaks fluent Japanese and explains the selling points of mulberry leaf tea.

01:01

Mulberry tea!

01:08

Seong Min eventually begins to promote the production of mulberry leaf tea

01:12

with a university in the Philippines as part of a JICA international cooperation project.

01:17

- Very very tea!
- Very very tea!

01:22

The production of the tea has become the lifeblood of the Yamaho community.

01:27

May our smiles reach the whole country!

01:33

This is an 11-year record of a man who has devoted his life to mulberry leaves.

02:05

Spring, 2011.

02:11

The town of Ichikawamisato, south of the Kofu Basin, has a population of around 15,000.

02:20

In Yamaho, a 10-minute drive from the town center, there is a company run solely by Seong Min and his wife, Miki.

02:29

Yamaho is a depopulated community.

02:33

Like all rural areas in Japan, Yamaho has a declining birthrate and an aging population.

02:47

Mulberry fields are a symbolic landscape of Yamaho.

02:50

Seong Min buys mulberry leaves from the locals to make tea.

02:54

Most of the mulberry leaves grown in this community are used as raw materials for Seong Min's company.

03:03

The most common use of mulberry leaves is in silk farming,

03:07

formally known as sericulture, the industry that produces silk thread.

03:12

In the past, silk farming was popular in Yamanashi,

03:16

and at its peak, cocoon production here was fourth highest in Japan.

03:20

However, as demand fell over the years, Yamanashi's silk farmers switched to growing fruit.

03:26

And now the number of silk farmers is very small.

03:34

Seong Min's company only uses mulberry leaves produced in Ichikawamisato that are no longer used in silk farming.

03:43

The tea has a dark green color and a clean taste.

03:49

Seong Min is solely responsible for production and sales.

03:53

Just like people, machines can go wrong at times.

03:58

To cut costs, Seong Min repairs the machinery himself.

04:04

"What is hurting you today?"
I fix the machine while talking to it.

04:13

When my company collapses,
I will work for this machinery company.

04:21

Always cheerful and dynamic, Seong Min was born in Changwon in the south of South Korea, the fourth of five brothers.

04:30

While working in an engineering factory, he met the love of his life who was studying language in South Korea.

04:37

This was the reason he came to Japan.

04:42

I instantly knew in my heart
she was the one I should marry.

04:47

Right here.
It just came to me.

04:51

I didn't think about the obstacles
of an international marriage.

04:55

I really liked him.

04:58

I was really happy to have met him.

05:04

Miki is in charge of administration.

05:07

Sales are made by internet and telephone mail order.

05:13

It is a small company in a small community, and they do everything on their own.

05:20

Seong Min and Miki moved to Yamanashi to start the business.

05:26

Miki's father Toru is the owner of a health food company in another prefecture and was the couple's inspiration for tea-making.

05:33

Toru focused on the health benefits of mulberry leaves.

05:37

Learning of the unused mulberry leaves from a friend in Ichikawamisato, Toru decided to start making tea.

05:45

Seong Min and Miki took over the business in 2008.

05:50

Sales are growing. However, the reality is that the couple can barely get by.

05:56

It's a tough business and
we have to be diligent.

06:01

To be honest.

06:03

But it's just me and my husband,
so we manage to get by.

06:09

The house is 50 years old. The rent is 15,000 yen.

06:15

It is rented at a reasonable price to the couple who work hard.

06:20

Life may be hard, but they never forget to smile and have hope.

06:24

This is their way of life.

06:35

Seong Min is a bit nervous today.

06:40

There is the annual meeting with the growers who sell him mulberry leaves.

06:48

There are 18 growers, but they are getting very old.

06:52

The oldest is 87. The youngest is 70.

06:56

None of the farming families have a successor.

07:00

One of our growers,
Osada Hidetoshi, passed away.

07:05

I think this kind of problem will arise
more often in the future.

07:09

It would be best if your heirs could take over,
but they don't want to.

07:17

They might do it if they could make a living,
but we can't guarantee that yet.

07:24

Mulberry is in dire straits.
I can't tell my children to take over.

07:32

Seong Min shares his thoughts with growers who are expressing their concerns.

07:38

I really want to make mulberry leaf tea production
a success here in Ichikawamisato.

07:43

I believe that history will look back
at what we started here.

07:48

Dreams and reality are different.

07:51

I want you to have this passion.
I'm doing my best to sell our products.

07:57

I understand, but...

08:00

I have the passion...

08:02

We may be small now,

08:06

but we want to attract your sons and
daughters, don't we?

08:11

I want to make it a great company...

08:13

and increase the number of young people.

08:20

That's my ambition.

08:24

Thank you very much.

08:27

The desire to increase the number of young people was a pipe dream at the time.

08:34

August is the season for harvesting mulberry leaves.

08:38

It is done every day until the frost comes in October.

08:45

Mulberry maintenance begins around the spring equinox.

08:49

By pruning and fertilizing in March to encourage new buds to grow,

08:54

mulberry trees will grow to more than a man's height in just four months.

09:01

This is hard work.

09:02

It's not easy.
It's hard to cut the branches.

09:08

Harvesting long branches is hard work for older growers.

09:15

Do you look forward to it every year?

09:17

Now that I'm older, I don't look forward to it.

09:21

Is that so?

09:22

It's different from when I was young.

09:25

It gives me a sense of pride.

09:28

It's my reason for living.

09:31

Among the growers was Ozawa Yoshimi, the only silk farmer in Ichikawamisato.

09:38

Compared to the past, his cocoon production is a third of what it used to be;

09:42

he sends his surplus mulberry leaves to Seong Min.

09:46

Here in Yamaho, we don't grow
any other crops like fruits or anything else.

09:52

We have been doing nothing but silk farming.

09:55

The silk farming tradition ends with him.

10:00

I can't say, "Please take over."

10:04

No one can make a living from this work.

10:08

Silk is a precious thing,
but it is not economically viable.

10:16

It must be that the times have changed.

10:23

The flow of time cannot be changed.

10:27

But it is precisely because it is a mountain village where time passes slowly that such a nostalgic scene endures.

10:37

I'm Osada Suguru.

10:40

And this is my sister Azusa.

10:44

- That's not a net, it's a bag.
- Yes.

10:47

- Can you catch bugs with that?
- Sure.

10:51

I made it myself.

10:52

- You made it yourself?
- Yes.

10:54

- This place is full of nature.
- Yes, it's fun.

10:58

There is a man who makes tea
from mulberry leaves.

11:01

Oh, I heard of him.

11:04

Do you know his name?

11:08

- Is it Mr. Han?
- Yes, yes. It's Mr. Han.

11:13

Suguru knew Seong Min only by the name Mr. Han.

11:18

A few years later, this boy's life takes a surprising turn.

11:23

So skillful.

11:28

From August to October, the couple makes tea from early in the morning until late at night.

11:33

The mulberry leaves are harvested by the growers in the morning and made into tea on the same day.

11:39

They are steamed, rubbed, and dried.

11:42

The process is the same as for green tea.

11:48

Seong Min has special feelings for this year's new tea.

11:59

That's because he was entrusted with the farm of one of the growers,

12:04

and he started to grow mulberry trees himself in addition to making the tea.

12:11

This is Osada Hidetoshi, who used to ship the most mulberry leaves.

12:16

Mr. Osada was a silk farmer for over 50 years.

12:19

He was one of the people who welcomed and supported Seong Min.

12:24

I enjoy working all day.

12:26

I'm fortunate to be able to do this
while maintaining my health.

12:35

Five months later, Mr. Osada passed away.

12:40

It happened suddenly.

12:49

We all die, one day, somehow.

12:52

I've thought to myself,
we're all going to die eventually.

12:57

Mr. Osada had high hopes for mulberry leaf tea.

13:01

As a mulberry expert, he also gave Seong Min advice from time to time.

13:06

When Seong Min offered to take on the work of the farm,

13:09

Mrs. Osada readily agreed, and entrusted him with all the support she could.

13:16

This was the car that Mr. Osada always drove,

13:22

so whenever I'm in it, I remember him.

13:28

He was like a local father,

13:31

urging me to ask him anything
I needed to know.

13:37

He took care of me in many ways.

13:39

He was a hard-working man
who did so much for me.

13:47

Seong Min's workload is increased, but he never complains.

13:51

He is entrusted with the farm because the locals trust him.

13:58

Autumn, four years after the Han couple lived in Yamaho.

14:05

On this day, the Yamaho district and the local elementary school held a joint sports day.

14:23

Even though Seong Min and Miki are busy,

14:26

they always participate in local events and are now true members of the community.

14:40

You took a lot of time.

14:43

Yes, more than I expected.

14:45

What's wrong with you?

14:46

Yeah, I got stung by a bee and lost my bearings.

14:50

Didn't that happen last year?

14:52

No.

14:55

In November, after the tea production was finished, Seong Min visits the Osadas.

15:05

He wanted to express his gratitude for the successful harvest to Mr. Osada,

15:11

who supported mulberry leaf tea production before his death.

15:17

Seong Min starts tending the field in preparation for the next harvest.

15:21

He has decided to protect this one himself.

15:28

In many ways, I really appreciated Mr. Osada.

15:34

I think that Mr. Osada
had his own ideas and worked hard.

15:39

Therefore, I naturally wanted to take
good care of this farm.

15:51

Seong Min wrote a letter of gratitude to Mrs. Osada.

15:56

Dear Mrs. Osada,

15:58

Thanks to you, this year's
mulberry harvest was a success.

16:05

This summer, I was able to pick leaves
from the mulberry field for the first time.

16:11

While picking leaves, I thought a lot
about the late Mr. Osada.

16:18

I don't say this often,

16:21

but I want to live my life cherishing Mr. Osada.

16:27

Please listen carefully to what
we sincerely want to say, Mrs. Osada.

16:34

Thank you and please stay in good health forever.

16:43

It makes me cry.

16:46

My daughter asked,

16:49

"Is there a young person in Japan
who writes letters like this, Mother?"

16:54

So I said, "Probably not."

16:58

My daughter cried as she read it.

17:03

It made us happy.

17:05

I read it again and again, crying.

17:11

If my husband were alive,
he would have been so happy.

17:17

With the death of his benefactor, Seong Min steps forward to revitalize this Mulberry farming settlement.

17:27

There are many rough mulberry fields in Ichikawamisato.

17:31

Compared to silk cultivation, the amount of mulberry trees used for tea is still very small.

17:37

The rest have been abandoned.

17:40

- It's not just five years, right?
- It's more than 10 years now.

17:47

The causes are the same in all rural communities.

17:52

In another five years, it will be more difficult.
There are growers now over 80 years old.

17:58

People are getting older and older.
This is the biggest problem for farming villages.

18:07

Seong Min's challenge begins.

18:12

I am Han from Kuwanosato.

18:14

My name is Han Seong Min.

18:16

Pleased to meet you.

18:18

In order to revive the abandoned mulberry fields, sales must be increased.

18:24

Seong Min attended a number of trade shows in an effort

18:27

to get corporate orders in addition to individual mail orders.

18:31

And he won a big contract.

18:35

When I received a 15-ton order
from a pharmaceutical company, I was so happy.

18:43

I thought, "If we made the proper plans
and expanded this business,

18:49

we could receive many orders."

18:54

I felt it intuitively.

19:00

Seong Min's actions, which arose from his intuition, far exceeded people's expectations.

19:06

The rough mulberry fields have been cleaned up, and there are rows and rows of what look like wooden sticks.

19:12

These are mulberry seedlings.

19:18

His plan is to plant mulberry trees on the abandoned farmland in Ichikawamisato Town.

19:24

The total area is 27,000 square meters!

19:27

- How many in total?
- Twenty thousand.

19:31

I regret a little that I ordered twenty thousand.

19:39

He borrowed money to plant these mulberry trees.

19:43

It is a big venture for Seong Min.

19:47

I'm willing to bury my bones in Ichikawamisato.

19:51

I'm passionate about this, yes.

19:55

I will definitely do it no matter what.

20:22

Abandoned farmlands have been revitalized.

20:27

Residents are surprised by this landscape.

20:33

In the old days, the scenery was just like this.

20:37

There were beautiful mulberry trees everywhere.

20:40

I was surprised when I heard that
he was going to plant 20,000 seedlings.

20:51

A revitalized mulberry settlement.

20:53

The green shines.

20:59

And the performance of Seong Min and Miki's company increased dramatically.

21:04

Tea production quadrupled in three years.

21:10

In addition, the couple ran out of labor and had to create jobs locally.

21:16

The people of Yamaho are also happy to have a place to work in the community.

21:22

I really appreciate this company
for creating jobs.

21:30

Some light trucks and agricultural equipment was also purchased.

21:36

The company, once run solely by the Han couple, is now the hope of the community.

21:45

Spring, 2014.

21:48

To further increase tea production, 16,000 more seedlings are planted.

21:53

The families of the company staff lend a hand.

21:56

Among them is a familiar face.

22:00

An eighth-grader plowing with a deft hand.

22:04

And an energetic 3-year-old girl.

22:09

Azusa, here you go.

22:10

Thank you.

22:12

I got one!

22:17

Do you remember them?

22:21

I'm Osada Suguru.

22:24

And this is my sister Azusa.

22:31

Suguru is the boy who was catching insects with his sister on his back.

22:39

Suguru and Azusa are very close just like before.

22:43

They came to help with their mother, who works at Seong Min and Miki's company.

22:48

You're good.

22:50

Suguru seems very motivated.

22:54

Do you like farming?

22:56

Yes.

22:57

You seem happy. Are you?

22:59

Yes.

23:01

I'm interested in farming.

23:03

Do you want to do it in the future?

23:04

I want to.

23:09

Seong Min has high hopes for Suguru.

23:13

He's great. I'm proud of him.

23:19

I've never seen such a fine child.

23:22

Suguru gives me energy.

23:33

Five months later, Suguru who loves farming, was there for the harvest.

23:39

The mulberry trees he planted have grown to over 2 meters tall.

23:45

I'm happy.

23:47

- Are you?
- Yes.

23:51

Suguru has been helping the farm often.

23:53

As he spent time with Seong Min, a thought occurred to him.

24:00

- Will you keep helping here?
- I will.

24:03

- For many years?
- Yes.

24:07

- As long as Mr. Han is doing it?
- Well, I'm thinking of working here...

24:13

...in the future.

24:15

- Oh, really?
- Really.

24:19

Seong Min's wish to "attract young people" has been realized.

24:24

I heard it, too. So, I am very happy.

24:28

I will continue to think about what
Suguru and I can do together,

24:32

and we will run toward our dreams with joy.

24:42

Suguru went on to an agricultural high school.

24:45

He has started to make steps toward his dream.

24:57

Seong Min, too, flew overseas to pursue his new dream.

25:05

Seong Min is visiting a farmer in the Philippines.

25:10

The reason why I came here is

25:15

because I want to grow mulberry trees with you.

25:19

In order to increase farmers' income,

25:25

I am thinking of a system.

25:30

The province of Pampanga boasts vast farmlands.

25:39

This is Pampanga State Agricultural University.

25:47

There are large mulberry trees growing on a test farm here.

25:54

Mulberry tea!

25:58

In the Philippines!

26:02

Seong Min planted them with students in 2014.

26:07

Introduced to the university by a Korean friend living in the Philippines,

26:11

he began planting mulberry trees as a volunteer.

26:15

This initiative has moved the country.

26:20

Seong Min applied for a project to support developing countries through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, or JICA.

26:28

His proposal to assist the Philippines with Japanese mulberry farming methods was accepted.

26:34

He then formed a project team with his friends in Yamanashi Prefecture

26:38

to try to help Philippine farmers with Japanese agricultural technology.

26:43

I want to plant the spirit of Japan
in the Philippines.

26:48

I want to do whatever it takes to make this happen.

26:55

In 2016, the JICA project was launched to test the cultivation of Philippine mulberry,

27:01

which is suitable for the mass production of tea.

27:04

University President Honorio Soriano Jr. plants mulberry seedlings with Seong Min.

27:10

He is excited about Seong Min's passion and the benefits that mulberry will bring to Philippine farmers.

27:18

- Very good!
- Very good. Very very tea!

27:21

Very very tea!

27:24

So, mulberry will be a very important commodity.

27:31

And, the governor of the province of Pampanga is very much happy to be part of this planting of mulberry in the whole province.

27:41

It has a very high prospect.

27:45

This is the first time for the students to grow mulberry.

27:48

Seong Min teaches them how to cultivate.

28:00

Rafael's family are rice farmers.

28:03

He too is growing mulberry for the first time.

28:07

Cutting... the edge.

28:10

- Do you have a girlfriend?
- Yes.

28:13

- One hundred?
- One hundred!

28:21

University President Soriano and Seong Min formed a strong friendship.

28:26

Since this project is an international contribution, it does not benefit Seong Min's company.

28:34

I don't care that my company won't make
any money from this project.

28:41

I just want to offer my knowledge
and experience from Japan,

28:47

and help this country.

28:50

We are the same, right?

28:53

Brothers and sisters of the human race,
I want this country to become truly prosperous.

28:58

While living in Japan for 13 years,

29:02

I have been taught and supported
by many Japanese people,

29:10

so I want to repay their kindness.

29:16

Eight months later, the mulberry field is lush and green.

29:22

In the Philippines, where it is warmer, mulberry leaves can be harvested even in winter,

29:26

and production is much higher than in Japan.

29:31

It's so healthy.

29:34

It's perfect.

29:37

The growth points are good too.

29:40

The project in the Philippines has achieved a good result in the cultivation of mulberry trees.

29:51

But Seong Min's expression on the plane home is rather cloudy.

29:58

Upon returning to Japan, he heads for the home of a mulberry farmer who has been a long-time support for him.

30:05

Hello.

30:08

Oh, you've come.

30:11

I just came back from the Philippines.

30:16

From the very beginning,
you helped me arranging things,

30:21

and taught me a lot, so...

30:28

Thank you very much.

30:32

Kobayashi Sadao was the head of the mulberry growers' association.

30:37

He warmly welcomed and supported Seong Min, who jumped into the community.

30:45

He also told him the harsh reality at times.

30:50

Mulberry is in dire straits.
I can't tell my children to take over.

30:58

He was very important to Seong Min.

31:10

Mr. Kobayashi, I'm sorry, I'm late.

31:17

He passed away peacefully.

31:21

I'm so sorry that I couldn't come sooner.

31:24

No, no, it's okay. You've been busy.

31:31

I'll do my best, so please watch over me.

31:35

Thank you very much.

31:45

If I have time to miss him,

31:49

I should work harder to make up for it.

31:53

I want to give Mr. Kobayashi a good report
when I see him in heaven.

31:58

So I'll do my best.

32:07

"I want to give my benefactor a good report."

32:11

With this in mind, Seong Min's company continues to grow.

32:16

It now has more than 40 employees.

32:20

Let's bring our smiles to the whole country.

32:25

Here we go...

32:26

Hip, hip, hooray!

32:32

In the beginning it was just
the two of us, my wife and me.

32:38

It's our passion.

32:41

After all, our passion is capital.

32:45

The company had made a major capital investment and installed a stick packaging machine.

32:50

This reduced a large amount of outsourcing costs and significantly increased profit margins.

32:56

They have also stepped up over-the-counter sales.

33:00

Their products have been adopted as a souvenir of Yamanashi at highway rest areas

33:04

and are now available at most supermarkets in the prefecture.

33:14

Seong Min has been asked to give talks to share his story of transforming a marginalized community into a place of hope.

33:24

Words are like seeds.

33:26

People who say only bad things
end up going in the wrong direction.

33:32

People who speak straight and
beautiful words sow beautiful seeds,

33:39

and their lives turn out well.

33:43

The factory operates 24 hours a day because tea production cannot keep up.

33:49

Seong Min is in charge of the late nights.

33:53

Oh, you're still working.

33:55

What time is it?

33:57

It's 25:35.

34:05

I start at 7:00 p.m.

34:08

and work until about 6:30 or 7:30 a.m.

34:15

No matter how much I make, it's never enough.

34:19

- Is that true?
- Yes.

34:21

Wow, it must sell well.

34:24

Yeah. It now sells well. Really.

34:29

In the first year, 2008,
the production was 550 kg.

34:36

What about this year?

34:37

This year, we need to produce about 20 tons.

34:41

Han Seong Min doesn't need to sleep
to make good mulberry tea.

34:47

This will revitalize the community.

34:51

When the community is revitalized,
young people will come back.

34:58

All his hard work paid off and Seong Min had built a new home.

35:07

Hello.

35:12

This house was a gift to Miki.

35:17

Seong Min let her decide everything, including the design of the house.

35:23

I'm hardly ever home.

35:28

I'm only home half of the month.

35:30

Are you?

35:32

Even when he's in Yamanashi, he's out a lot.

35:36

He comes home late and just goes to bed.

35:39

That's true.

35:40

"Contribute to Yamanashi, Japan, and the world,

35:44

with the goal of living a hundred years, and shining a thousand years into the future."

35:51

Seong Min is busy running around to achieve this goal.

35:55

Miki, who supports him, has one more dream that she really wants to fulfill.

36:03

However, it is something she feels difficult to discuss with Seong Min.

36:07

Do you ever have the urge for a break...

36:13

...as the company is rapidly growing?

36:15

Well...

36:16

I want to have a baby soon.

36:20

But it's not easy when my husband is so busy.

36:24

When we get home, we are both too tired.

36:32

So sometimes I think that it would be better
to relax and think about it instead of working.

36:39

I really, really want to have a baby soon.

36:43

At this time, they've been married for 16 years.

36:50

In 2020, the project in the Philippines made significant progress.

36:55

A tea factory was completed.

36:59

Wow, it's done!

37:04

Unbelievable.

37:05

Amazing!

37:07

The international cooperation that Seong Min started in 2012 has finally reached this point.

37:14

To finish off the factory, Seong Min and University President Soriano placed seals on the machine

37:20

that honor Japan's assistance to this project in the Philippines.

37:34

"From the People of Japan!"

37:45

Thank you, father!

37:53

I am very, very grateful.

37:57

I'm holding back tears.

38:02

This is the result of the strong bond between University President Soriano and Seong Min, who are like father and son.

38:11

Now, I'm very happy.

38:14

Now our dream is realized.

38:21

Seong Min immediately brews the first tea in the Philippines.

38:32

Beautiful green mulberry leaf tea.

38:41

I am so happy.

38:51

Good. Good!

38:54

- Very nice color.
- Very nice.

38:57

- Golden mulberry tea!
- Golden mulberry tea made in the Philippines.

39:04

Yes! Made in Philippines.

39:07

Shortly after this, however,

39:12

the Philippine factory was closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

39:21

After graduating from an agricultural high school,

39:26

Suguru, who admired Seong Min and wanted to pursue a career in agriculture,

39:31

went to an agricultural academy to learn more about the industry.

39:36

After graduation, however, he decided to take a different path than Seong Min.

39:43

There are many kinds of agriculture,

39:45

and I'm interested in learning
about different methods and practices.

39:52

That's what I'd like to see.

39:55

Are you not so attached to Mr. Han's company?

40:00

Well, that's how it is now.

40:06

In April, 2021, Suguru started to work for an agricultural production company in his hometown of Ichikawamisato

40:15

because he became interested in growing vegetables at the Agricultural Academy.

40:21

But he is still grateful to Seong Min for teaching him the joy of farming.

40:26

When I knew nothing about farming,
Mr. Han taught me many things,

40:35

and increased my knowledge and opportunities.

40:41

He is my precious...

40:46

...benefactor.

40:52

Suguru has realized his dream of farming, which he has held since he was a small child.

41:02

And Seong Min has also realized his next dream.

41:06

Do I look cool?

41:10

It is a brand-new tea factory.

41:14

I sincerely thank you for coming from far away
to attend the opening ceremony of our new factory.

41:22

We have grown together with
Yamanashi, Japan, and all of you.

41:29

When we die, we cannot take anything with us,
but we can leave something behind.

41:35

As a culture for children and for the future,

41:39

I'd like to pass on our sincerity and aspiration.

41:44

Let's work cheerfully and joyfully.

41:49

Here we go... Hip, hip, hooray!

41:53

Finally, a long-awaited moment arrives for the couple.

42:02

Because of COVID-19 protocols, Seong Min is waiting in his car.

42:09

We got here at 3:30 a.m.

42:14

And it's almost 2 p.m.

42:17

I've been here the whole time.

42:20

I'm fidgety and nervous.

42:24

I...

42:25

I can't stand it anymore.

42:27

I can't wait.

42:31

We've been waiting for a long time.
My wife more so than me.

42:36

I gave up halfway through, to be honest,

42:41

in the 15th year of our marriage.

42:45

I can't sit still. I'm so anxious.

42:55

And finally...

43:02

Miki!

43:03

The baby's born.

43:04

Born!

43:11

Oh, congratulations, Miki!

43:15

Good job.

43:17

Thank you.

43:21

I'll send you some pictures.

43:22

Sure. Miki, how are you?

43:26

I'm a little exhausted.

43:29

Was it an easy birth, Miki?

43:31

Hmmm... the delivery was... a little hard.

43:36

Come see us.

43:38

I'll meet the baby first,
and then I'll go see you in two hours.

43:42

Okay.

43:44

Okay. See you later.

43:55

Miki, you did great!

44:04

Here's your Papa.

44:06

A baby boy weighing just 3000 grams.

44:14

- It's nice to finally meet you.
- Yes, it is.

44:17

My wife really wanted a baby.

44:19

We've been married for 18 years and 2 months.

44:22

- She cried a lot.
- Yes, I did.

44:27

She was crying, "I want to be a mother."

44:33

I had to wait for Hikaru for 18 years

44:37

because I needed to be ready...

44:47

You're right.

44:53

It was the time I needed
to become Hikaru's mother.

44:59

That's how I felt in the hospital.

45:05

First meetings are always moving,
but this one is exceptional.

45:19

As soon as the ban on international travel was lifted in 2022, Seong Min flew to the Philippines.

45:32

- Very clean?
- Very clean!

45:36

The purpose is to reopen the factory at the Pampanga State Agricultural University, which had ceased operations for two years.

45:45

It's not rusty.

45:49

It's fine.

45:55

Finally, it is time to restart.

46:01

But not everything will be the same as before.

46:07

Seong Min has lost someone important to him.

46:15

Well...

46:18

Sorry, I'm late.

46:21

Thank you for everything.

46:27

Honorio Soriano Jr.

46:33

- "Golden Mulberry Tea!"
- "Golden Mulberry Tea made in Philippines!"

46:44

University President Soriano, whom Seong Min loved as his father in the Philippines,

46:49

was infected with COVID-19 and passed away at the age of 65.

47:10

Father.

47:15

Please continue to watch over us in heaven.

47:18

I will make this wonderful path,

47:21

that you and I created together,

47:26

into a fine path.

47:32

Please send me your strength.

47:36

Thank you so much.

47:41

I would like to see you again, Father.

47:47

I miss you, father.

48:03

Mulberry leaves are abundant again this year.

48:08

Hikaru.

48:11

He made his debut in the field this year.

48:15

Hikaru, come here.

48:23

It's a mulberry leaf.

48:25

This is what makes the tea.

48:33

Hikaru, when you grow up, please help Papa.

48:42

Did you throw it away?

48:47

Hikaru...

48:49

Let's create a wonderful future together!
