Saving the Giant Salamanders

We meet Richard Pearce, a British ecotourism guide who runs an NPO dedicated to Japanese giant salamander conservation in Tottori Prefecture, and Swedish Peter Paalsson, a crafter of furniture in Hokkaido Prefecture.

Japanese giant salamanders are a rare species with over 23 million years of history.
Many Japanese and foreign volunteers have been moved to join Richard's cause.
Richard hopes that organizing giant salamander viewing tours will make more people care about their conservation.
Peter is a carpenter skilled in the use of white birch, a type of wood not often employed in Japan. He says he loves to draw his own sketches and see the objects he crafts take shape.
