As its name suggests, Beach Volleyball is played on sand. With only two players covering an area around the size of a regular volleyball court, it's a demanding sport, requiring strength, stamina and strategy. Japan has never been among the sport's big guns, but former player and current president of the Japan Volleyball Association is trying to improve its competitiveness and popularity by implementing some rigorous initiatives.
