Gold coins - Koban

Sixty years ago, 3 types of gold coins from the 17th and 18th centuries were discovered at a construction site in downtown Tokyo. They were made in the Edo period, and are called 'koban.' Their gold shimmer, unchanged after several centuries, shows the efforts of the government of the time to maintain public trust in these coins.
