Hot spring bathhouse reopens in Nanao City

A public bathhouse at Wakura Onsen, a hot spring resort in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has reopened its doors for the first time since the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Known as Wakura Onsen Soyu, the beloved day-trip destination was a favorite among locals and tourists alike. But the earthquake damaged the hot spring's piping and liquefaction rendered the main entrance inaccessible.

The bathhouse management have improvised by hanging the store curtain at an alternate entrance. Regulars are delighted to return. One customer spoke of feeling lighter after enjoying the hot spring, while another described the experience as much better than what was offered by alternative venues.

Koizumi Takashi, president of the company that runs Wakura Onsen Soyu, says it's a relief to reopen the facility. He adds it is important for patrons to be able to relax, especially while other bathhouses are still undergoing repairs.

For now, Wakura Onsen Soyu is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
