Free consultations help quake evacuees find jobs

A free consultation session was organized in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, to introduce temporary job opportunities, including part-time work, for evacuees affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

A consortium of temporary staffing agencies organized the March 6 session at a ryokan that serves as an evacuation center. The event was designed to help people who have become unemployed during a long period of displacement.

The ryokan currently houses 240 evacuees from Wajima, Suzu, and other cities.

Session participants were able to offer about 40 positions at hotels, restaurants, and confectionery makers for jobs that are expected to last from one to three months.

From March 8, jobfinder consultation is available by phone. A toll-free number operates on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The telephone number is 0120-563-562.

Shima Yoichi, executive director of Ishikawa Prefecture's human resources business council, said, "We would like to support those who wish to return to the Noto area in the future by providing short-term job assistance."
