New telephone hotline helps older residents in Noto Town

For some elderly people and others who do not use computers or smartphones, information about disaster recovery has been hard to come by since the New Year's Day earthquake. That was the case until this month, when officials opened a call center in quake-hit Noto Town, Ishikawa Prefecture.

The center opened at the town office on March 1. Three people are on staff to answer calls between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.

Call center staff can offer explanations and connect callers directly to relevant departments.

As of March 4, 30 inquiries had been received about the timing of disaster victim certificates, procedures for publicly funded demolition, and details of the assistance available.

"It is difficult for the elderly who do not use computers or smartphones to receive information provided by the town," notes local official Yoshida Genichiro. "We want them to use the call center for even the smallest matters to help alleviate their concerns."

The call center is available for residents of Noto Town.

The phone number is 0768-62-3085, available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, including Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
