Osteopathic clinic reopens in Wajima City to help quake survivors

An osteopathic clinic has reopened in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, to treat people who have incurred pain or injury in the aftermath of the New Year's Day earthquake.

The Masaki Acupuncture and Bone Setting Center was closed for more than six weeks after the earthquake damaged the building and cut off its water supply.

But director Masaki Koji says he has decided to reopen due to the volume of requests from people needing treatment.

Masaki Koji has reopened his osteopathic clinic after receiving requests from locals suffering in the post-quake environment.

An 80-year-old local man visited the clinic complaining of leg and back pain from carrying 30 liters of water from a water station every other day, and from all the work he has had to do fixing up his house after the earthquake.

Other visitors complained of swollen feet after staying in their cars for an extended period because their homes were uninhabitable.

"I think many people are hesitant to spend time taking care of themselves in the harsh environment after the quake and they are working themselves too hard," says Masaki. "I want to provide them with the treatment they need."
