Some post offices in quake-hit region resume counter operations

Counter operations resumed from January 31 at some post offices in Wajima City, Suzu City, Noto Town, and Anamizu Town in Ishikawa Prefecture. The services were suspended following the New Year’s Day earthquake.

Five post offices have re-opened:

  • Wajima Post Office in Wajima City
  • Suzu Post Office in Suzu City
  • Yanagida Post Office in Noto Town
  • Nakai and Hira Post offices in Anamizu Town.

ATM service has also resumed. In addition, Japan Post Bank and Japan Post Insurance have also reopened their counters at the five post offices. Even if clients lost their bankbooks or insurance documents in the earthquake, they can receive funds as long as their identity can be confirmed.

The following post offices are also accepting packages, although they are not offering full service as yet:

  • Monzen Post Office in Wajima City
  • Matsunami Post Office in Noto Town
  • A mobile set-up at Anamizu Post Office in Anamizu Town

The earthquake caused structural damage to many buildings in Ishikawa Prefecture, leading all post offices in Wajima City, Suzu City, Noto Town, and Anamizu Town to suspend counter operations.
