Driver's license validity extended up to 5 months

As a special measure for victims of the earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula, the National Public Safety Commission has decided to extend the validity period of driver's licenses for earthquake victims by up to 5 months.

On January 11, the Japanese government designated the earthquake as a "specified disaster," allowing special administrative measures for the victims.

In response, the National Public Safety Commission has extended the validity period of driver's licenses for those expiring on or after January 1, the day the earthquake occurred, by a maximum of five months to June 30, 2024.

The extension is available to residents of 47 cities, towns, and villages in four affected prefectures covered by the disaster relief law: Ishikawa, Niigata, Toyama, and Fukui.

In addition, the application period for benefits paid to crime victims and the validity period of permits to possess hunting rifles have also been extended.

This information is current as of January 12, 2024.
