A 77-year-old woman was killed in Soeda Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, when a landslide hit her home shortly before 4 a.m. Her 74-year-old husband was rescued with minor injuries.
And a man in his seventies was found inside an inundated truck in Hirokawa town, Fukuoka Prefecture.
He was rescued but confirmed dead at the hospital.
Landslide hits two homes in Karatsu City
Rescue operations are underway in Karatsu City in Saga Prefecture, where a landslide hit two homes.
Officials said one woman was in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest after being located at around 1 p.m. Two other residents are still unaccounted for.
Mudslide hits Kurume City
In the Sanmyoji district of Kurume City, local authorities say a mudslide hit seven houses at around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
They say 14 people have been rescued, but six people were unaccounted for as of 5 p.m.
