A new bullet train that inspects rail infrastructure as it carries passengers has succeeded Japan's well-known Doctor Yellow shinkansen.
The Dr.S train made its first commercial run on Monday. The special train has equipment for inspecting tracks and other operating elements.
It looks like a standard shinkansen but with Dr.S logos on the sides of some carriages. For now, it will be tested without conducting inspections.
Dr.S schedules are not disclosed. Four will be phased in for full-scale inspection runs starting in January.
