The Great Hokusai

NHK WORLD TV will broadcast a series of programs about Hokusai and his creations. Tune in to discover the life of the most famous ukiyo-e master.

【Who is Hokusai?】
Born in Edo in 1760, Katsushika Hokusai was a legendary master of the ukiyo-e, Japanese woodblock print. Until his death at the age of 90, he produced a variety of pictures which ranged from landscapes, animals and everyday themes to scenes beyond our everyday world. His most famous work, the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, including The Great Wave and Red Fuji was created when he was 70 years old.
