In her 21st summer in Ohara, Kyoto, Venetia works on her garden in the morning to avoid the heat. She carefully weeds out dead plants. She makes bagna càuda to appreciate local vegetables fresh from the nearby market. As she lives in a century-old farmhouse without an air-conditioner, Venetia visits a shop of Kyo-uchiwa fans to replace her indispensable old one. The shop shows her some rare fans such as a woodblock-printed one and an "ornamental" fan with bare bamboo sticks beautifully arranged.
