English

The novel coronavirus and a semiconductor chip shortage have delayed automobile production, which has led to more people buying used cars.

Explanation

「中古」 means “used” or “secondhand.” You can use the word to refer to used goods, vehicles, electronic appliances and devices, and even houses. You can shorten 「中古の車(chuuko no kuruma)」 to 「中古車(chuukosha)」.
Here are some other examples; 「中古自転車(chuuko jitensha)」(used bicycle), 「「中古カメラ(chuuko kamera)」(used camera) and 「中古品(chuukohin)」(secondhand goods).

One man living in Chiba Prefecture uses a “kei” minicar through such a service. The price for one month is 11,000 yen, which includes taxes and inspection fees.

Explanation

Cars are classified in different ways, for example, based on size or engine displacement. 「軽自動車(kee jidoosha)」 or “kei car” is a Japanese vehicle category for small cars with engines no bigger than 660 cc. Outside of Japan, they’re sometimes referred to as “Japanese minicars.” 「軽自動車」 are extremely popular in Japan for their ease of use and affordability, including lower taxes and cheaper insurance.
