Spring Blossoms and the Festival in Asakusa *RERUN
Actor Kataoka Ainosuke explores a kabuki dance in which two actors play a total of eight different roles featuring Tokyo's famous Sanja Festival. The most famous part of the dance features the legendary fishermen who caught the Buddhist image in the temple at Asakusa in their net.
Empress Jingu and her retainer Takenouchi no Sukune with her infant son, the future Emperor Ojin. They are like figures on a festival float that have come to life.
The two fishermen are suddenly possessed by the spirits of good and evil and they do a lively dance, as though struggling with each other for control of a human heart.
The set of four dances ends with shishi lions throwing their manes powerfully in the air.
