This time on J-FLICKS, we travel to beautiful Kyoto, the birthplace of Japanese cinema. Home to major films studios for around 90 years, the city has been, and continues to be, the backdrop for many historical films and TV series. We visit the Toei Studios Kyoto, famous for their long legacy of historical cinema, to meet with the craftspeople of their art department. We also take a look at the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab, a workshop gathering budding film creators from around the world.
Additionally, we introduce The Old Capital, a modern adaptation of a novel by Yasunari Kawabata, set in Kyoto. With us in the studio is the film's director, Mr. Yuki Saito, to discuss the beauty and appeal of Kyoto as expressed through his film.
