Uprising for Human Rights: Wanda Traczyk-Stawska / Former Warsaw Uprising Soldier
Wanda took part in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, which was the resistance struggle to the Nazi regime. Nowadays, she protests against the politicians about some social matters from her experience of the war.
Wanda took part in the Warsaw Uprising when she was 17 years old. This photo shows her almost the same as at that time, because it was taken when she was 18 years old.
The Warsaw Uprising was subdued in about 2 months. The soldiers were recognized as the resistance after World War II. That's because the Soviet Union considered them dissidents. But now, people consider they were heroes of struggling for the independence of Poland. This statue is a memorial for them.
The ashes of about 50,000 soldiers and civilians who died in the Warsaw Uprising are sleeping in this cemetery park.
