Finding Freedom in the Pool
We visit a swimming school in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan. The school opened 30 years ago and is tailored to people with disabilities. Suzuki Takayuki, who clinched five medals in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, was also a student. We take a look at how the school has expanded horizons for many students with disabilities.
The school, called Penguins Village Swimming School, holds classes every week in four public pools in the city. Coach Ito Yuko began offering the classes 30 years ago.
Suzuki Takayuki, who won five medals in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, was also a student of this school.
