We visit members of a charter bus company that was hit heavily by COVID-19. Executives had to make the tough decision to dismiss some employees. And those that remained had to make ends meet after getting large cuts in their salary. For six months, we followed them through their struggles. (This program was broadcast on December 1, 2020.)
The charter bus company is based in Fukuoka prefecture. Tour groups from China, which made up about 40 percent of revenue, had all canceled their trips.
CEO Kaieda Tsukasa has been calling banks day after day, trying to secure funds. Workers who stayed with the company continue doing part-time jobs on the side to support their families.
Driver Nakagawa Kaori is looking into other services the company might offer, to make up for the slump in sightseeing tours.
