It has been 11 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. In a two-part series, we introduce foreign residents in Japan who continue to be committed to the disaster areas that are still struggling to reconstruct. In Part 1, we feature a refugee from Myanmar who has worked hard to support affected communities since shortly after the disaster. (This program was broadcast on April 6, 2022.)
Kyaw Kyaw Soe is a refugee from Myanmar who has lived in Japan for thirty years. He runs a Myanmar-style restaurant in Tokyo.
Kyaw Kyaw Soe made numerous trips to the Tohoku region with fellow Myanmar residents in Japan immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
They sell products and donate the proceeds to support the resistance movement in Myanmar.
