SUPPLEMENT SCANDAL RAISES SAFETY ISSUES

At least five deaths in Japan have been linked to health supplements made by Japanese drugmaker Kobayashi Pharmaceutical. More than 250 users have been hospitalized, with most cases involving kidney disorders. The supplements contain a type of red yeast-fermented rice called beni-koji.
We spoke with Dr. Yamasaki Takeshi. He is the chairman of Tokyo-based NPO Science of Food Safety and Security.
