Fukui's lavender farm creates purple landscape

An early-flowering variety of lavender is in full bloom at a farm in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, creating a purple landscape beneath Mt. Hakusan, which is still crowned with residual snow. The flowers that fill the 6,000-square-meter field were planted in 1991, after a local farmer visited Hokkaido's Furano and was fascinated by its vast lavender fields. Fukui's field contains 4,000 plants of four varieties.
