Kyushu Azalea blanket mountain gorge

About 50,000 Miyama Kirishima plants are in full bloom at Sensuikyo in Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture, vividly coloring the lush green mountainside. This type of azalea grows wild across Kyushu. It is characterized by its pink flowers, which are smaller than common azaleas. The local government says the flowers will continue blooming at higher altitudes until early June.
