Cherry blossoms turn Miyazaki station pink
Pink cherry blossoms bring a spring-like atmosphere to Nichinan City in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu. A local horticulturist developed the Nichinan Kanzaki No. 1 trees in 1951 from early-blooming mountain cherry trees, to create New Year's blossoms. Buds began to open at the end of December on about 20 trees near JR Kitago Station, and about a quarter had bloomed as of January 11. The flowers will reach their peak at the end of this month and can be enjoyed through early February.
