Simultaneous snow and autumn color in Akita

An unusual sight of white snow falling onto trees at their autumn foliage peak unfolded at Dairyuji Temple in Oga City, Akita Prefecture. A strong winter-type pressure system was in place on the day of the filming, and the region experienced its first full-scale snowfall of the season. Due to relatively warm recent weather, the autumn leaves were at full color later than usual. The temple’s priest said that the rare combination of autumn foliage and white snow happens only once every few decades.
