Hiroshima's spectacular 'sea of fog'

Miyoshi City in Hiroshima Prefecture is surrounded by mountains. In autumn, the cooling effect of three rivers creates a large amount of fog that is often likened to a sea of clouds. This footage was captured on October 3. The sun rose above the mist — blanketing the landscape in an otherworldly golden pink. Amateur photographers flock to an observatory more than 490 meters up. The best time to see this phenomenon is on windless, sunny and cold mornings between October and December.
