Castle town glows in Shimane

Lanterns illuminate a castle town in Shimane Prefecture. An event called "Matsue Suitouro" features 1,000 lanterns lighting up Matsue Castle, a Japanese national treasure, in Matsue City. Citizens drew images and wrote messages on 475 lanterns. Themes include "Matsue-ness" and "Shimane's charm." The autumn display will be held on evenings of Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays through October 15.
