Praying for the souls of atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima

Every year on August 6, people in Hiroshima gather on the banks of the Motoyasu River to release lanterns bearing messages for peace. The tradition is a way for residents to offer prayers for the victims of the atomic bombing 78 years ago. About 5,000 lanterns are released into the water every year.
