Summer floats return in Aomori

The Aomori Nebuta Festival kicked off in the northern city of Aomori with a procession of giant floats called nebuta, depicting historical warriors. Dancers called haneto moved to the sounds of flutes and drums around the five meter-tall floats. As an anti-coronavirus measure last year, the number of dancers was restricted to those who had pre-registered, but people were allowed to freely join this year.
