Tenjin Festival back in Osaka

Osaka hosted the Tenjin Festival at full scale for the first time in four years. The festivities reached a climax on July 25 with about 100 boats crossing the river in the center of Osaka City. "Funatogyo," is a Shinto ritual in which a mikoshi, or a portable shrine, is put on a boat to allow the God, usually enshrined in the main shrine, to look around the area. The sounds of drums and bells liven up the festival, with 3,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky.
