Iconic summer scene in Hokkaido 

The sea of Shakotan Peninsula, which juts out into the Japan Sea in western Hokkaido, is a vivid blue in summer when the waves are quiet. The color, called "Shakotan Blue," changes according to the water depth and the angle of the light.

The rising sun turns the sea red at sunrise, which, combined with the rough rock surfaces, creates a fantastical atmosphere.
