Paper dolls bring happiness downriver, Tochigi

In this event, children wearing light yukata kimono entrust their wishes to dolls made of wrinkled Japanese paper, and float them downstream. About 100 children gathered this year beside the Omoigawa River, Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture. The dolls are known as shimotsuke hitogata, and there is a saying that if you make a wish while casting one onto the waters, your wish will come true.
