Mountain outside Tokyo blooms with color

Akiruno City, located about an hour west of central Tokyo, is surrounded by mountains, one of which lights up in color every summer. Its slopes are covered with about 15,000 hydrangeas, planted over fifty years ago by a man who wished to be accompanied by the flowers as he crossed the mountain paths to visit his family's graves. Now, the hydrangeas are looked after by young people in the area who hope to keep the flowers blooming for years to come.
