Spring makes its last stop in Iwate

On a small hill in the Noda district in Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, stands a Someiyoshino cherry blossom tree called "Inai no Ipponzakura." Against a backdrop of Mt. Iwate adorned with a blanket of lingering snow, the iconic tree in full bloom is spectacular.

It is revered by residents of the mountain village, who diligently maintain the pathway that leads to it.

Due to the city's high altitude and low temperature, cherry blossom trees reach full bloom later than others in the city, and people in Iwate prefecture call it the "final station of spring."
