Lake Shikotsu lights up for festival of ice

Every winter, Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido's Chitose City plays host to an ice festival featuring dozens of frozen statues and an evening light show that bathes the area in a colorful LED glow. The lake, the second-deepest in Japan, was created by volcanic activity and is famous for its clear blue color. The festival runs from January 28 to February 23 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
