Winter daffodils bloom on Fukui coast

Daffodils sway in the sea breeze on a cliff on the Echizen coast of Fukui Prefecture. Farmers grow the flowers for ikebana, traditional floral arrangements, ordered by customers around the country. The cold wind and rain blowing in from the Sea of Japan are said to make the flowers stiff and fragrant. The daffodil is the official flower of Fukui Prefecture.
