Hakodate dons festive trappings

Hakodate draws tourists all year round for its famous seafood and stunning vistas. In December, there is the added attraction of a giant Christmas tree about 20 meters tall on a barge in the harbor of this Hokkaido city. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the festival, which also features fireworks every night through December 25.
