Autumn leaves and Nara's pagoda

The autumn leaves surrounding the five-storied pagoda of Kohfukuji Temple in Nara draw visitors from far and wide. The pagoda, built more than 1,293 years ago during the Nara era, has undergone several rebuilds in its history. The most recent, built around 1426, is a designated national treasure. Now, due to the pagoda's age, repairs are necessary for the first time in 120 years.
