Red spider lilies in full bloom

The Komagawa River in Saitama Prefecture is lined with around 5 million red spider lilies -- one of the largest such colonies in Japan. In mid-September, the ground is covered with a red carpet of flowers. In 2020 and 2021, officials closed the park before the flowers bloomed to avoid crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic, but they kept the gates open in 2022.
