Autumn harvesting on Okayama's terraces

The Kamimomi district of Kumenan Town in Okayama Prefecture has around 1,000 terraced rice paddies of varying sizes. The district, located at an altitude of approximately 400 meters, has been selected as one of the "100 best terraced rice fields" in Japan. Rice harvesting begins at the end of August and peaks in September. Farmers use small harvesters and sickles to collect the rice from the narrow terraces.
