Wind chimes soften the summer heat

At Saikyoji Temple in Otsu City, the approach to the shrine is adorned with 1,500 wind chimes. The monks of the temple hand-painted each glass chime with the intention of dispelling summer heat and ending plagues. Even today, people say the soothing sound of the chimes swaying in the wind provides a pleasant respite from the summer heat.
