Recovery market in Kaga offers work for quake evacuees

In Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, an event is providing crucial support for evacuees impacted by the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The event, held daily until May 12, offers a workplace for those who are still unable to return to their hometowns. It also contributes to the recovery efforts by selling locally made products.

Organized by the local hot springs association, the Noto Recovery Market showcases specialty goods from the disaster-affected area, with different vendors each week.

The market, located in front of Kaga Onsen Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line, offers vital employment for people who had to evacuate from their hometowns. Around 800 evacuees currently reside in Kaga City.

The recovery market format first appeared after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

A visitor from Aichi Prefecture in his 60s said, "I bought jam and other things to support the disaster-hit areas during my trip to Ishikawa Prefecture. It's a small way to contribute while I can’t visit Noto directly.”

Inoue Taketo, a 20-year-old evacuee from Wajima City working at the event, urged people to attend, saying, "Joining the event benefits both us evacuees and the affected areas."
