Seafood market event heralds a restart in quake-hit Nanao

A popular market in Ishikawa Prefecture is hosting its first event since the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

A popular seafood-focused roadside market in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, has been shuttered since the New Year's Day earthquake. But the facility is preparing to reopen for a special event during the spring holidays.

The Noto Shokusai Ichiba market has long drawn both tourists and locals looking to sample the area's celebrated seafood. But it has been closed since January as liquefaction brought about by the earthquake caused structural damage.

Restoration work is still underway, but the facility's manager has decided to hold an event in a less-damaged part of the structure in an effort to bring some vitality back to the local community.

The event will feature more than 20 vendors selling seafood, including Noto oysters, and other food and beverages.

Manager Muramoto Takahisa says, "We hope people will come and visit us as we want to convey the charms of Noto and energize the region."

The event will run from April 27 to 29 and May 3 to 6.
