Japan Post asks quake survivors to update addresses

Japan Post says it has a mountain of undelivered mail for recipients on the quake-hit Noto Peninsula, and urges people to swiftly inform them of their current whereabouts.

Japan Post temporarily halted mail and package deliveries in the worst-hit regions, but services have since resumed in many locales. Some post offices are holding a substantial volume of undelivered mail, as people whose homes collapsed have not filed the paperwork to register their new addresses.

Around 5,000 letters are currently sitting at the Suzu Post Office. The items include New Year's cards and correspondence from insurance companies.

Japan Post is appealing to individuals to finalize their relocation details at the nearest post office or through online channels. The director of the Suzu Post Office says, "We can forward and deliver the mail to evacuation centers, so we encourage people to report their change of address."
