Yamashita joined NHK in 2000. During stationed in NHK’s Fukushima bureau, he covered 2011 tsunami earthquake and nuclear disaster. He then stationed in Vladivostok, Russia for three years and covered Japan-Russia bilateral issues and the situation in Ukraine.
