Doctor's beloved cherry blossom blooms in Kochi Prefecture

Dr. Makino Tomitaro, considered the father of Japanese botany, donated cherry blossom saplings to the town of Sakawa in his home prefecture of Kochi. Successors to those saplings are now the stars in a park named after the famous scientist, which is listed as one of Japan's official top 100 cherry blossom-viewing locations. It has 350 cherry trees of about 30 varieties.
