Kumano City's wild cherry trees quietly bloom in nature

Kumanozakura, a wild early-blooming cherry tree native to the southern part of western Japan's Kii Peninsula, is already in full bloom in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture. The variety is characterized by its pale pink color and small petals. It grows wild, scattered across the southern part of the peninsula. It was confirmed as a new type of cherry blossom in 2018. According to locals, some cherry trees at high altitudes bloom later, so visitors can enjoy Kumanozakura until early April.
