The 300 or so Kakegawa cherry trees lining the riverbanks of Shizuoka Prefecture's Kakegawa City are in full bloom. The variety was recognized as unique 10 years ago. The blossoms are about 5 cm in diameter and are characterized by dark pink flowers pointing downward.
